Being on Top: Never Apologize

Most people are striving to be something, or somebody, throughout their lives. Whether it be striving to be the best at their job, or wanting to run a marathon, most people have goals they set out accomplish. I recently took a break from accomplishing anything for three weeks (due to a break in school) and began watching Gossip Girl. I never was interested in such a show, but figured, why the hell not? I became addicted and mostly because of the character Blair Waldorf.

Blair is the most dedicated character to getting what she wants I have ever had the pleasure of viewing. Although she is bitchy, and a horrible snob, I admire this character, played by Leighton Meester, very much. Blair never gives up and she accomplishes that for which she is striving. My favorite qualities in Blair are she never apologizes for whom she is and always stays true to herself. I believe these are the two best qualities a person can acquire.

I realize that Gossip Girl is just a show, and probably not the most respected among my peers, but the character Blair Waldorf has something to teach us all. Being on top is something we all dream about at one time or another. Might I suggest instead of dreaming of such things, going for them, and never apologizing for what we have to do to get them. Now, I am not saying to hurt people on the way to the top, but sometimes in order to get what you want, others might have to be knocked down a few notches. There isn't any harm in that, right? Blair wouldn’t think so, and I am inclined to agree with her.

Oh Finals.....

Finals are slowly approaching, which means I will be devoting most, if not all, of my time to my wonderful textbooks. Studying and paper writing will be consuming my next few weeks! Perhaps I will post a paper or two that I have written when all is said and done. Look forward to reading about Anxiety and Addiction, or a paper written about the effects of tobacco and alcohol advertising and whether or not I believe it should cease to exist! I will not give my opinion on that subject away yet! Until next time here's to hoping finals go smoothly!!!

Psi Chi

Today I was inducted into the International Psychology Honor Society! When I first got the email saying because of my academic record and involvement in psychology that I was invited to join this prestigious society I was very elated, but that excitement dwindled away being that the email was received a month or so before the actual ceremony.  However, the induction today brought that feeling back, and with a risk of sounding a bit over confident, I am very proud! With only a year and a half left of my undergraduate career, I am looking forward to applying for jobs and this honor will look fantastic on a resume.  Although I have changed my major to Mass Communications with a focus in Public Relations, I am still minoring in Psychology, and perhaps will even get my bachelors in the psychology field after graduating.  Either way I am extremely humbled and proud to be a member of Psi Chi!

Worth It?

Driving home from MI tonight, I became inspired by Taylor Swift's lyrics from her record Folklore . I haven't been inspired to write much in years. I wrote a Haiku yesterday in three minutes and it felt great. Poetry usually isn't my thing, but some of my creative writing students asked if I'd be their advisor for Poetry Club and I am delighted that I agreed! For the first time in nearly six years, I'm writing. Anyway, here is an erasure poem of the song "This is Me Trying" by Taylor Swift.     Worth It? I've been having a hard time adjusting  I had the shiniest wheels, now they're rusting  I didn't know if you'd care if I came back  I have a lot of regrets about that   Pulled the car off the road to the lookout   Could've followed my fears all the way down  And maybe I don't quite know what to say  But I'm here in your doorway  I just wanted you to know   That this is me trying  I just...
